A South Asian girl and a South Asian boy may grow up in the same home, eat the same food, celebrate the same traditions… yet experience life differently. And that difference matters.
Intersectionality reminds us that no story is one-dimensional.
That people carry multiple layers at once, and each one adds depth to their experience.
It teaches us to listen a little closer, and assume a little less.
It also teaches us to understand that empathy begins when we recognize that everyone’s journey is layered in ways we may not immediately see.
At House of Jaya, this idea deeply resonates across people. Because so many of us live between cultures, expectations, and evolving versions of ourselves. And maybe that’s what makes identity beautiful, not its simplicity, but its layers.
